Addictions Therapy in Kitchener & Waterloo Region

Compassionate Support for Change, Healing, and Recovery

Living with addiction can feel isolating, overwhelming, and deeply personal. You may struggle with guilt, shame, or frustration, especially if you’ve tried to make changes before and found it difficult. Addiction is not a failure of willpower; it is often connected to stress, trauma, coping, and survival.

At Kitchener Therapy Collaborative, we offer trauma-informed, compassionate addictions therapy that meets you where you are. Our approach focuses on understanding the role substances or behaviours play in your life, while supporting meaningful, sustainable change.

Understanding Addiction

Addiction can take many forms and affects people differently. You may notice:

  • difficulty controlling substance use or certain behaviours

  • using substances to cope with stress, emotions, or trauma

  • cravings or urges that feel hard to resist

  • impacts on relationships, work, or daily responsibilities

  • feelings of shame, secrecy, or loss of control

Addiction is often a response to pain, not the problem itself. Therapy can help uncover underlying patterns and support healthier coping strategies.

Our Approach to Addictions Therapy

Our work is grounded in trauma-informed care, meaning we prioritize safety, choice, and collaboration at every step.

We focus on:

  • understanding what addiction does for you, not just what it takes away

  • identifying emotional, relational, or trauma-related contributors

  • building coping strategies that reduce reliance on substances or behaviours

  • strengthening self-compassion and resilience

  • supporting change without judgment or pressure

You will not be shamed or told what you “should” do. Your goals guide the work.

Evidence-Based Support

Therapy may draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • mindfulness and nervous system regulation strategies

  • strengths-based and harm-reduction approaches

  • trauma-informed psychoeducation and skill-building

As registered social workers, we do not diagnose, but we will work collaboratively with you to assess patterns, understand impacts, and develop a plan that supports recovery and wellbeing.

In-Person and Online Therapy Options

We offer:

  • In-person therapy in Kitchener

  • Online therapy across Ontario

Both options are private, secure, and designed to support you wherever you are in your healing journey.

You Are Not Alone

Trauma may be part of your story, but it does not have to define your future.

If you’re ready to explore support that is grounded in safety, compassion, and collaboration, we’re here when you’re ready.
